Welcome!

Welcome to THE CASHMANS OF CORK AND FLORENCE, MASSACHUSETTS AND THE CLARKS OF LIVERPOOL, NEW ORLEANS AND NORTHAMPTON!  My name is Elizabeth Goodhind-Banas. I am a Cashman-Clark descendent. I am also a real estate broker and an aspiring genealogist. Many people have contributed to my research of the Cashmans and Clarks. I have cited them in ‘Mary’s Garden’ a narrative history of the Cashmans, which I hope to make available again in the form of CD’s. I could not have possibly acquired the copious amount of birth, marriage and death records, obituary notices, photos and family stories without their generous input. To them, I owe much gratitude.

The fascinating photo under the title of the website was taken on Jimmy Clark and Mary Cashman’s  wedding day on February 2, 1895. Jimmy and Mary were my great-grandparents. This photo more than any other has brought me together with cousins and descendents of related families from all over the U.S. Nearly every family member I have encountered has seen this photo at one time or another and nearly everyone has heard a story about Jimmy Clark and Mary Cashman.

My enthusiasm for genealogy has taken me to Ireland on ten occasions, where I have had the pleasure of meeting distant Cashman cousins, who shared their tables and homes with me. I ventured to the places our Cashmans once lived and visited the resting place of our earliest known ancestors in Ballynaglough.

I embarked on other forms of genealogical journeys, as well. The search for Roger Cashman has been one of the most fulfilling voyages. Since I was a small child, I heard stories from family members about Uncle Roger who had 'gone missing' in the late 1920’s. Through faith and  determination. I was able to unravel his travels through the West, his encounter with a criminal who attempted to steal his military pension and his eventual demise in Reno, Nevada. Family mystery solved!

Like all genealogical research, there is always more work to be done. Our Clark ancestors have been elusive. However, leads abound. It is my hope that before we say 'farewell'  to 2009, we will know more about Hugh Clark and his wife Mary Carroll.

Creating this website has been a joy! My desire is to share what I have learned about our ancestors, who even with the passing of time, still impact who we are. With that that thought, I am pleased to introduce you to the Cashmans and Clarks.
